Privacy Policy for GudBites AI

GudBites AI helps users scan food, barcodes and meals, track nutrition and hydration, and ask Bite AI Coach food and fitness questions. This policy explains what data is collected, why it is used, where it is stored, and which third-party providers process it.
Information We Collect
- Account data such as phone number, user ID, display name and profile preferences.
- Food scan data such as food photos selected or captured by you, barcode numbers, product details, meal names, nutrition estimates, ingredients and scan history.
- AI Coach content such as questions you submit, recent conversation context, meal summaries and app context needed to answer your request.
- Hydration and progress data that you enter or generate inside the app.
- Advertising and usage data processed by Google AdMob, including advertising identifiers where permitted by your device settings.
- Push notification tokens when you enable reminders.
How We Use Information
- To authenticate users and keep sessions active.
- To analyze food photos and barcode scans and return nutrition results.
- To store meal history, hydration records, profile settings and app preferences.
- To provide Bite AI Coach responses based on your submitted questions and relevant app data.
- To show ads and measure ad events for the free version of the app.
- To send reminders or app notifications when enabled.
- To improve reliability, diagnose errors and protect against abuse.
AI Processing and Third-Party Sharing
GudBites uses Google Gemini to provide AI-powered food analysis, barcode image enrichment, food correction/reanalysis and Bite AI Coach responses. Before user-provided images or messages are sent to Google Gemini, the app asks for AI Processing Permission.
Depending on the feature you request, GudBites may send food photos, gallery images, package images, barcode or product details, food descriptions, corrected food names or weights, meal summaries, nutrition information and AI Coach messages to Google Gemini. This is done only to generate the requested analysis or response.
If you decline AI Processing Permission, GudBites will not send your image or message to Google Gemini for that AI feature. Non-AI parts of the app remain usable.
Other Service Providers
- Supabase provides authentication, database, Edge Functions and storage for app data.
- USDA FoodData Central may receive food search terms to enrich nutrition estimates.
- Open Food Facts, UPCitemDB, Go-UPC and Barcode Live may receive barcode numbers to look up packaged-food products.
- Google YouTube Data API may receive exercise names to find workout tutorial videos.
- Google AdMob provides rewarded and interstitial ads and may process advertising identifiers, device data and ad interaction data according to Google policies.
- Expo Push Notifications may process push tokens and notification payloads when reminders are enabled.
Third-party service providers process data according to their own privacy practices and applicable protections.
Storage and Retention
Account, profile, meal history, nutrition, hydration, consent and app records are stored in Supabase. Food photos are sent for analysis only when you request an AI feature. Meal and app records are retained while your account is active unless deletion is requested or required by law.
Security
GudBites uses HTTPS, authenticated Supabase sessions, database access controls and server-side Edge Functions for sensitive AI and nutrition processing. Secret API keys are not stored in the mobile app.
Your Choices
- You can decline AI Processing Permission. You can grant it later when using an AI-powered feature.
- You can control camera, photo, notification and advertising permissions through your device settings.
- You can request account or data deletion by contacting support.
- You can manage ad personalization through your device and Google settings.
Account and Data Deletion
To request account deletion or deletion of stored app data, email support@gudbites.ai with the phone number linked to your GudBites account. We may ask for verification before deleting account data.
